On July 10, the "Three-Step" academician Forum on Nuclear Energy sponsored by the Chinese Nuclear Society and hosted by CNNC was successfully held in Beijing.​ Promote the active, safe and orderly development of nuclear energy in a new era and a new journey, and accelerate the building of a nuclear power. ​



The Forum consists of two sessions: keynote report and panel discussion. In his speech, Wang Shoujun pointed out that in the four decades since the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has insisted on promoting the safe and innovative development of nuclear energy, and has made remarkable achievements. At the new starting point, it is necessary to accelerate the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy, promote the high-quality development of nuclear energy, help build a comprehensive nuclear industrial power, and contribute nuclear energy to Chinese-style modernization. He said that the Chinese Nuclear Society will give full play to the role of the nuclear industry association think tank and bridge, build a high-quality platform for the whole industry, and work hand in hand with all parties to create a better future for China's nuclear energy development.



Yu Jianfeng stressed that the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy has clear goals, clear paths and arduous tasks. CNNC will take the "Whole · Synergy" year as an opportunity to vigorously cooperate, open up and cooperate with all parties to accelerate the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy. First, vigorously promote the development of hot reactors, promote the optimization and scale development of "Hualong One" technology, promote the commercialization and multi-purpose application of high temperature gas cooled reactors, and promote the global promotion of small reactors. Second, accelerate the development of fast reactors, develop 1 million kilowatt commercial fast reactors, focus on promoting integrated fast reactor research and development, and strive to achieve integrated fast reactor project demonstration by 2035, large reprocessing plants are completed and put into operation, and have conditions for commercial application. The third is to actively promote fusion research and development, build a world-class Chinese fusion platform enterprise, carry out deuterium tritium tests, actively layout fusion future industry, and build fusion pilot experimental reactors and commercial demonstration power stations as soon as possible.





The keynote report sessions of the Forum were splendid. Focusing on the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy, four experts, Du Xiangwan, Ye Qizhen, Ye Guoan and Luo Long, shared their research results and insights respectively, providing a wealth of ideological inspiration and reference for the participants.


Academician Du Xiangwan delivered profound insights on the importance of China's energy transformation and nuclear power development with the title of "Energy Transformation, Nuclear Power Shoulder", further elaborated on the new understanding of China's energy resource endowment, and introduced the "three-step" strategy of China's nuclear energy. He stressed that in the critical period of energy transition, nuclear power will play an irreplaceable role in contributing to China's "dual carbon" goal and high-quality energy development. He said that the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy is in line with the international trend of nuclear energy development as well as China's national conditions. In the future, China will continue to promote the development of hot reactors, fast reactors and fusion reactors, and strive to achieve greater breakthroughs in the field of nuclear energy science and technology. He called on all sectors of society to correctly understand the strategic position of nuclear energy and support the development of nuclear power.


Academician Ye Qizhen, focusing on the theme of "Thermal Reactor Development Situation and Prospects", introduced in detail the progress and planning of China's nuclear power, the innovative development of China's nuclear power, nuclear heating, and the development of multi-functional small reactors. He said that accelerating the second step of the "three-step" national strategy of nuclear energy is the strategic task ahead. Therefore, we must pay close attention to the research and development and construction of large advanced sodium-cooled fast reactors, and speed up the construction of large pressurized water reactor spent fuel reprocessing plants.


Academician Ye Guoan elaborated on the necessity and urgency of the "Development of China's Integrated Fast Reactor Nuclear Energy System". He stressed that from ensuring the security of nuclear energy resources and industrial chain, to realizing the national strategic will, to ensuring the safety and green development of nuclear energy, to realizing China's independent development of nuclear energy and occupying the commanding heights of science and technology, the integrated fast reactor has an irreplaceable role. At the same time, it is also an important part of achieving the "double carbon" goal and building an advanced low-carbon energy system. He called on all sectors of society to pay attention to and support the development of this advanced nuclear energy technology, and jointly promote the nuclear energy industry to a new height.


Deputy Director-General Roderon introduced the history and cooperation mechanism of ITER project, the installation and construction of ITER project, and the latest work plan of ITER through video, with the theme of "ITER Project and Development of magnetic Confinement Fusion". He said that fusion energy is an ideal energy source with no pollution, no long-lived radioactive nuclear waste and unlimited resources. The goal of ITER is to validate the tokamak operation model and prepare the science and engineering for future thermonuclear fusion demonstration reactors and commercial reactors. At the same time, ITER's innovation and derivative products also promote the development of manufacturing, medicine and other fields.


In the discussion and exchange session, the participating academicians and experts had in-depth exchanges and discussions on key issues in the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy. Du Xiangwan, Ye Qizhen, Ye Guoan, Xing Ji, Wang Haitao, Liu Yong and other academicians delivered their insights on the global nuclear energy development trend, the development relationship between hot reactor and fast reactor, the successful experience of fast reactor technology, the continuous innovation of third generation pressurized water reactor, the commercialization of high temperature gas cooled reactor and the development prospect of nuclear fusion technology. It provides valuable opinions and suggestions for the implementation of nuclear energy "three-step" strategy. Academicians and experts said that the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy will lead China's nuclear energy industry to a new height of development. They suggested that we should vigorously promote the implementation of the "three-step" strategy of nuclear energy, strengthen technological innovation and personnel training, promote the positive, safe, orderly and sustainable development of nuclear energy, and contribute to the realization of the goal of building a nuclear power.
